Should the US Postal service be kept as a jobs program even though their service is antiquated?

And email could handle the vast majority of mail for a tiny fraction of the cost of the USPS?Should the US Postal service be kept as a jobs program even though their service is antiquated?
No. It needs to be eliminated, or at the very least it needs to be de-unionized.

We in Canada did not realise how much we depended upon our postal service until the labour disruption earlier this year. While a service reduction would certainly help the situation, it's still an important enough part of the economy. Millions of Americans rely on it because it is significantly less expensive than other carriers and it covers every single address in the US.
The post office is a direct function of gov't per the US Constitution. Therefore, they shouldn't be eliminated, but they definitely need to be revamped to keep up with the times.Should the US Postal service be kept as a jobs program even though their service is antiquated?
Parcels are sent by UPS you know? Parcels can't be sent by e-mail.
No. The post office delivers to areas of the county that the other services won't because it is not profitable. The post office just needs to be able to change rates and services to be compatible and meet government regulations.
Antiquated maybe but the volume of mail the USPS handles on a daily basis is still massive and at a lower cost than any private company could possibly do.
Keep in mind the USPS was in good shape until a bill was passed 5 years ago that required the USPS to fund their pension plan for the next 75 years and it gave them 10 years to accomplish this. Yearly that has meant $5.3 billion dollars of USPS revenues going towards this pension bill. And there is almost $75 billion dollars current in that fund and a bill in the works that will allow the USPS to repay some of that over payment back to the USPS general fund..Take that away and the USPS is back in the black.
The postal serice has 75 billion a year in revenue and you call them antiquated They deliver 600 million pieces of mail every day
Would have been a better idea to update it with the times so it could compete !
No, it is far too expensive, mismanaged and inefficient. Time to move on.
No, jobs are not ends they're merely just means to an end.
