Is govt postal service obsolete & should we just get rid of it & force people to switch to email or ups /fedex?

they can get a po box at ups or something %26amp; the rest can be emailed. or would this not work?Is govt postal service obsolete %26amp; should we just get rid of it %26amp; force people to switch to email or ups /fedex?
The market would take care of it. Private companies would step in and delivery the service.

Every year the Post Office loses Billions of tax payer dollars. It is not a sustainable option.
The postal service would likely be profitable were it able to function without political interference. For example, the Postal Services plans to shut down one post office and move the personnel to another larger facility. The Congressman from that district then has a fit, and the Post Office remains open. Such would not be the case with either UPS or FedEx.

I utilize a nearby Post Office on a frequent basis - at lest once weekly- these are good people doing a good job under demanding conditions. They deserve to remain employed. Is govt postal service obsolete %26amp; should we just get rid of it %26amp; force people to switch to email or ups /fedex?
Postal service was profitable and wouldn't be in any trouble right now if not for Republican legislation.

Looking at this non-issue, or SS, or Medicare problems, it becomes pretty apparent that government is not really the heart of any of these problems, and it's actually just the Republican legislators that are. If Republicans had not forced the USPS to come up with pension money for the next 75 years, for people not even alive yet... I can almost guarantee that you would not be asking this question today under the guise that the Post Office is in trouble, obsolete, or any other such nonsense.

Further, the USPS is still the only mail service that I know of that ships anywhere in the US. Other services are forced to determine what is profittable first and foremost, instead of serving "We The People," first.
There would have to be an amendment to the Constitution to allow that, since it requires the federal government to have a post office. Forcing people to switch to email wouldn't be right because not everyone owns or can operate a computer, but other shipping companies will probably be much more effective that the USPS.Is govt postal service obsolete %26amp; should we just get rid of it %26amp; force people to switch to email or ups /fedex?
If the Post Office isn't being subsidized, keep it.
If it is being subsidized, quit it!
Let it live or die on its own like any other business.
Regardless of what Postal Employees say, I believe it IS subsidized. Who pays for all those offices? Those vehicles? Does the Post Office pay taxes on their assets?
It isn't an level playing field after all, is it? Let them charge a proper price for their services and then we can get a true evaluation of the benefit.
UPS and Fed Ex often carry Post Office packages for the Post Office... Hmmm.
The subterfuge is enough to make you want to go Postal!
Force people? This is America. Talk to your mail man. The cuts won't be made on the delivery people. They can't. Who is going to take a job working 4 days a week? The cuts are going to be made in the offices. Sorters, etc. It will slow the mail down, and put a larger burden on the employees that are kept.

I had a talk about 2 days age with my mail man about this.

The idea of privatizing is good, but not in the this case.
Here's an idea:

Why don't we Privatize the USPS....Give them a bankroll to start, keep all their employees and such...

Then,

Put the delivery of mail up to bid. Let UPS, Fed Ex, DHS, USPS all bid for a contract to deliver mail and see which one has the best proposal to disperse the mail faster, more efficiently, more timely and least expensively?

Seems like a good idea to me.
It is almost obsolete, but not quite. Maybe they should just start operating like ups and fed ex.
But then who would fill my mailbox up with junk mail every day if we get rid of over paid incompetent union workers?
Door to door mail servie once or twice a week would be adequate.
Nope, I still get lots of mail....not all junk mail either.
