Other than the postal workers themselves, who would miss them?

They cannot make their pension, healthcare payments past November without government intervention. You can pay bills online, then there is Email, and monthly checks get direct deposit. I have had the same book of stamps for more than a year. Does anyone really need this service?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/09/鈥?/a>Other than the postal workers themselves, who would miss them?
Not I

We don't need the service and we certainly need the money saved.
You can not pay all your bills on line especially in a small town. If the state wants to bring it to your attention your Drivers License, or taxes owed they do not have every citizens e-mail address. In some states your proof of residence for your children's school, to register to vote is a bill mailed.Other than the postal workers themselves, who would miss them?
yes I would but not for myself but my neighbors daughter who's father is in Afghanistan. the child runs to the mailbox everyday to see if DADDY sent her a letter, and he does, and every morning she puts one in the mailbox to send to him......
Oh, it can be reduced. Packages are still cheaper there. I don't believe in privatization of the entire things. Neo-cons love the idea, but the private company would jack up the price sure as shoot.Other than the postal workers themselves, who would miss them?
I shop online, yet I've noticed I can't click on a link and tug a package out of my computer screen.

Just guessing, but usually the employees of any service are required to keep it running.
Every country needs a postal service.
It would be cheaper if the government just contraced with the existing private carriers UPS, FEDEX, etc.
It should be taken as a glaring failure of the Obama administration that he can't even keep the Post Office solvent.
How would cons get their welfare checks then?
Yeah mostly I just get junk mail anyway
Then we'd have to strike the term 'going postal' from the dictionary. Damn! It was actually quite apt.
If you buy things online who will deliver them.

How long should I have to wait for my package?

I ordered something on eBay. The person sent me an email two weeks ago as of today saying my item had been shipped out. They shipped it via US Postal Service First Class Mail. I sent them an email a couple days ago and they haven't gotten back to me yet. Is it time to file a claim through paypal or am I jumping the gun?How long should I have to wait for my package?
you can wait for MY packageHow long should I have to wait for my package?
Ask them for a tracking number. Then check with the carrier.

If you find no shipping info contact ebay to request a refund. How long should I have to wait for my package?
nah, some people are slow

this site is great, not only is it legal, it is very easy too! you basically search using their search engine which is actually google and ask.com mixed in and get random swagbucks. these swagbucks can be traded in for points such as video games, anything you want! look out for swagcodes, these codes appear anywhere and can offer a random amount of points! so why not join? it's free, legit, and certainly legal!

http://swagbucks.com/?cmd=sb-register%26amp;rb=497255
after getting the tracking number (if there is one).

wait another week. I always give at least three weeks.

There can be hang ups in the postal process.

Most are under staffed and slow.

I know its frustrating but you dont want to start the claim process only to get the package a day or two later.

Sometimes the mail routes to large central hubs that take it farther away and groups it to your area. Weird I know but that has been my experience as I check on the locations through the tracking system. You would think it just goes the shortest distance but they dont always. Sort of like flights have stop overs out of the way to pick up and drop off passengers before continuing to its destination. (air mail?)

good luck with your purchase.

Can you block certain addresses from sending you mail?

like through the actual mail (not email)? Is it possible to get the postal service to not send letters from those addresses to your house? Can you block certain addresses from sending you mail?
no its an actual legal right to use the postal service unless ther is a NO CONTACT ORDEr from the courts

I got a weird email from USPS?

This is what it says:

Hello!

Unfortunately we failed to deliver the postal package you have sent on the

12th of November in time because the recipient's address is erroneous.

Please print out the shipment label attached and collect the package at our

office.

United States Postal Service

The thing is I didn't send anything? I ordered something yesterday but it says the package you sent the 12th. I'm just really confused. What could this be?I got a weird email from USPS?
DO NOT DOWNLOAD AND OPEN THE ATTACHMENT. This is a well known scam. Opening the file will cause it to attempt to install a virus on your computer. The Post Office never uses an email address. They do not have it.

Is there really any reason for the government to keep funding a failing Postal service?

At one time it was necessary to have it to communicate in this country, now with emails and several successful private carriers, why does the government need to be involved? UPS already does mail to a degree, fed ex probably does too. Why not let companies like this emply people to deliver ALL the mail in this country and let them hire people from the proivate sector to do the job the US government is blowing a ton of money on.Is there really any reason for the government to keep funding a failing Postal service?
Eliminate saturday delivery and voila! budgets are balanced. Is there really any reason for the government to keep funding a failing Postal service?
The government does not fund the Postal Service, nor has it since 1973 when it became an independent agency. You and I do by what we pay for mail delivery services. And, yes, the Postal Service is still a vital part of our country. And UPS and Fedex do not provide universal delivery as does the Postal Service. It may be cheaper for some people to have mail delivered by private businesses, but the cost to a large segment of our country would skyrocket. It's not time to abolish USPS yet.Is there really any reason for the government to keep funding a failing Postal service?
The lowest cost to mail a letter via UPS is $4.84.

Are you willing to pay that amount for EVERY letter you send?

Companies would have to charge you extra to send a bill to your home!

Then there are the legal ramifications!

I own trucks and though the 2 small, 10-ton dump trucks are working rather steady, I can't seem to find work for my Tractor-Trailers. (2 of them)

I have seen subcontractors hauling USPS Trailers down the highway and am looking to get a contract with the USPS to do this as well but for the life of me I can't locate ANY information on this.

    http://www.usps.com has nothing.

My emailed queries have led to nothing.

When I go to the Post Office (The main one for Chicago), no one there has any idea what I'm talking about.

How do i see what me United States Postal Service tracking number is for my idem?

I've been tracking my idem with equick and the last two things it has said on equick.cn is

2011/3/18 7:00:00 Kansas City, KS 661061093 Transferring to USPS

2011/3/19 16:04:00 KANSAS CITY, KS 66106 Accepted by USPS

Idk if it transferred or not because that was the last thing i got yesterday and i'm pretty sure that the 661061093 isnt my tracking number because it didnt work and neither did the other tracking number i already had. Please help! i haven't gotten any emails saying that my tracking number has changed either. How do i see what me United States Postal Service tracking number is for my idem?
If you have been tracking it then you don't need the tracking number. The tracking number is only to TRACK it. When I order something, the tracking number is the one they give me in the first place and it doesn't change. It may take a few days to catch up with the USPS.

Discrimination with the USPS (United States Postal Service) what would you do?

I had an issue a month ago, in my small town post office, where I posted my business card on a USPS bulletin board (I read the USPS website and have emailed USPS for the exact code and the code and regulation actually states that no one business except USPS and government notices can post on these) and so I return in a week and my business card was ripped down by the post master, she admitted this to me and went on to tell me that her personal policy is to allow only non-profit business' to post (oh btw, with the exception of a couple of private business' she does favors for) I want to bring this up with her but not sure how, any ideas? Should I go right to the source or file a complaint with USPS in Washington.Discrimination with the USPS (United States Postal Service) what would you do?
It's the exception part where she is allowing select for-profit businesses to do it, that is what she did wrong. So yes, I'd say she has a demotion coming her way, and you should see that she gets it. It is not her house, she maintains it for the people, and is to do so fairly. Knock her down.Discrimination with the USPS (United States Postal Service) what would you do?

    Anyone getting this email?

I have got an email twice now from a postal service (UPS) possibly American telling me they have been unable to deliver a parcel due to the address being wrong and it's ready to be collected. There is an attachment which I haven't opened.Anyone getting this email?
I got this about 6 yrs ago. I cant believe its still out there. as people know when their expecting packages. I think its aimed at business computers primarily. They deal with UPS more often.

UPS, or any other delivery company will NOT send you an E-mail regarding packages.

Think about it; how could they, how would they know your E-mail address?????

It is a scam to get your personal information and/or your money, or both!

    Do not respond to it.

Report it, forward it to the FTC at spam@uce.gov and to the abuse desk of the sender's ISP.

For yahoo, report them here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/ya鈥?/a>

Choose Fraud as the reason for the violation you're reporting on.

Also, if the E-mail appears to be impersonating a bank or other company or organization, forward the message to the actual organization.

And for your E-mail safety, remember:

Do not ever open E-mail from people you do not know; and unless you are absolutely sure who it is from then treat them as spam.

Opening spam alerts the sender that your address is a valid one and they send you loads and loads more of it to you.

Never, ever give out your personal information to anyone, for any reason, whether by E-mail, snail mail, phone call, or at your front door.

And do not ever send money, checks or money orders to; or cash checks, money orders for any one - ever.

Are there laws protecting against someone using the postal service to harrass?

I bought something on Ebay and the seller wanted payment right away, I had trouble with my paypal, but I made payment after 6 days. I looked into ebay policy and the seller is supposed to allow up to 7 days for a buyer to pay. Anyway, I said sorry and stuff but I DID pay and I bought a pair of jeans size 12.

Later I got the package in the mail and it came not long after and when I opened it, not only did she send me jeans for a toddler, NOT what I ordered, but they were COVERED in urine! They also had what I could assume was dog hair all over them. Well I threw them out, told the lady she was a nasty person and now I'm battling with paypal to get my money back.

Is there more I can do? I mean if something so simple could set her off like that, who knows what she could do if someone truly crossed her?? Are there laws against using mail service to send something so nasty? Should I report it??

Please only answer if you KNOW what I should do, and who I need to contact.

Please keep in mind that I do not have any proof except for emails of her mad that I took so long to pay and emails of me responding telling her how disgusting she is.

I no longer have the package she sent me, this was a few weeks ago. She send usps parcel post with no tracking so I have no way of showing it even arrived, all I have is an online paper trail of our communication, my negative feedback for her on ebay and my filing a claim with paypal to get my money back.

If you have any suggestions please do so. Oh and I'm in California, she is in Michigan if that matters at all. Thanks!!Are there laws protecting against someone using the postal service to harrass?
Yes there are laws, but you have to be able to substantiate your allegation againt this person. If you send any package thru the USPS then it becomes a federal matter as well if that package contains hazardous materials such as human (ar animal) biological waste products.

However, in order for you to pursue such an initiative against this person involving legal action for what you state was done, you have to be able to prove it... and - you can't because you "threw away" the items directly involved in supporting your allegation as a complaintant. Even a first year defense attorney on acedemic probation would rip your case to shreds.

Follow through with your complaint against her via Ebay %26amp; Paypal, but even they may ask for some sort of viable source of proof.. and you do not even have the box... You have to ask yourself, is whatever amount I paid for this worth the amount of time that I am letting this bad situation consume my thoughts? I would just move on and consider it a lesson learned. Are there laws protecting against someone using the postal service to harrass?
contact paypal and they will open a complaint with the buyer and if she doen't refund after a short time they will refund your money..

Perhaps you should be calling the Irish Embassy and not asking a bunch of faceless, nameless people online why they are not sending you the forms. Then again, download what you need and have it in seconds. http://www.inis.gov.ie/

UK question: In addition to the postcode, why not have your email address added to the address label of?

letters and parcels sent to you.

(This information would probably need to be added to a scannable barcode which can easily be printed by the sender from a website)

Then the person who has the email address could specify a destination on a website where all their letters are to be delivered, such as their workplace.

This would cut down, and eventually eliminate the need for time-consuming daily postal rounds in residential areas, and open the postal market effectively to competition, thus eliminating the negative influence of postal unions on this service.UK question: In addition to the postcode, why not have your email address added to the address label of?
Oh! YEAH! THAT WOULD BE FANTASTIC - can you imagine all the spam then - bad enough now without having your email spread across the Post Office labels.
Eh? You'd still need someone to deliver the physical mail. Besides, do you realise what placing your email and postal address on a website does in terms of increasing spam and junk mail? We're talking astronomical levels of the shite!

Hold on, reading your question again about the workplace delivery... not everyone has a workplace, also I wouldn't want all and sundry at work knowing how much mail I'm getting, parcels etc, seeing where it's from (co-workers are incredibly nosey!), not to mention having to cart it all back home, and I don't think every boss would appreciate having a van load of mail dumped at his door every morning, especially for large companies.

In my opinion it's just not workable.UK question: In addition to the postcode, why not have your email address added to the address label of?
Great idea (I think not) Do you really want everybody to know you have a live address? Lets us give out our date of births and bank account details as well.....
Perhaps you would like to fork out the money to pay for all the additional workload that you would like all the postmen %26amp; postwomen to take on?

Also the additional expense of new computers for every employee.

Do you realise that a single round can involve deliverying 1,000s of letters a day?

P.S. Perhaps you should also look at the way Alan Leighton is fostering a bullying culure within Royal Mail. If you think that breaking the law is right, then please move to the Q down the end of the hallway.

Just my 2p worthUK question: In addition to the postcode, why not have your email address added to the address label of?
I don't know why you limit this question just to UK citizens.

Regardless, your statement that "You [sic] details on the web site would be held securely - only staff can access them." is irrelevant, considering the increasing amount of identity theft in the world, including from that of supposedly secure government facilities.

You seem to have put a lot of thought into this, so, I'll say the following with all due respect: It's absurd. For one thing, you have not considered the chaos that would occur when someone changes their e-mail address but forgets to tell the post about it? Furthermore, many e-mail addresses are cryptic and easily misspelled or misunderstood, such that one person's, "Hi_There@uknow.com" may be misconstrued as "High_Their@You-know.com". It's one thing to misspell a well-known street name, or even give a wrong number (e.g., 123 Main St versus 321 Mane St), which an intelligent postal clerk may be able to rectify, easily, but it's a completely different story with e-mail addresses.

Let's face it, the only thing that postal (snail) mail and e-mail have in common is the word "address". The concept of using one for the other is like the difference between apples and rutabagas! ;)

"A" for effort, though! Now, go do your homework before I call your parents! ;)

    UPS Email Virus Question?

I got an email from the 'UPS Postal Service', that had an attachment that I clicked on, not reading the warning I was given about the email containing a virus. I looked back to where it said the email address, and it said xod@blutt.com, which doesn't seem like the UPS Postal Service, even though it said it was from them. It said in the email:

'This mail contained a virus or a file violating the mail policy.

The file has been repaired or deleted.

Hint: most infected mails are not originating from the given sender address.

Notifying the sender does not make sense in these cases.'

My computer hasn't been slow, and the ZIP attachment I clicked on didn't seem to have anything in it, and I shut it as soon as I opened it. I've done a couple of virus scans and nothing has shown up yet, (during the hour since I opened the attachment). Is there any chance I could have a virus or keylogger?UPS Email Virus Question?

eg. telphone, mobile phones, internet, postal service, email

    please help

    many thanks

xHow has communication changed over the last 100 years ?
    Pretty broad question.

I think the crux of how communication has changed is the speed of communication and availability of such communication. Both the postal service and the telephone were in service over 100 years ago, as was the telegraph; however, the difference in how quickly they operate and how extensively they operate is huge.

Make a list of all the ways people communicate with each other now. Don't forget faxes.

100 years ago, the primary two ways letters and other information traveled was by ship and by train, and not by today's higher speed trains, either. 100 years ago, it would probably take you up to 4 months, if not longer, to send a single letter to, say, Australia. If it was to a *really* remote part of the world, forget about it. A telegraph or cable *might* make it there faster, but only if the area to which you wished to send the message was linked with the telegraph system.

Now, you can fax a letter to Australia in the time it takes for the phone system to connect up and send it. You can send an e-mail to someone in the Himalayas instantly. You can call people almost anywhere in the world, at locations that are incredibly remote.

Our forms of communication really haven't changed much. It still boils down to the spoken word versus the written word. The real difference is in the speed in which we can transmit our information and the broader reach to which we can send it.

Was Postal Service asking too much of its applicants?

so I drive to the interview place which is 20 miles away, no problem. I interview and get hired for a casual labor position paying $9 an hour. They send me an email with instructions for the next step of the hiring process. I have to take a drug test. And I have to print out, sign, and fax a release form for the background check. Ok fine. I had to go to the library, print out the form, go to Kinkos, and fax it to the number given. No problem. Then I was called to come in this morning, back to the interview place, to have a medical review.

I went there, did the review. After the review, they said, here is your fingerprint paperwork, you need to take it to this address and get your finger prints taken, and then bring the form BACK to the interview/medical review place. I asked how far away the finger printing place was. She said she didn't know, that I should call the place to find out. I called the finger print place. They are

in downtown Houston. It is at least 20 miles away from the interview/medical review place. I go back into the office, and say, this is asking too much. I don't have the gas money to be driving to downtown Houston, not to mention my truck is old and I don't feel comfortable taking it on that kind of trip.

Do you have a shuttle, I asked? Do you have a closer location to get my finger prints done, I asked? No, and no. And she's looking at me like I'm crazy. Do you want this job or not, she says?

I said, yes, but you are asking too much. I shouldn't have to drive all over creation for a $9 hour

job that is only supposed to last for 4 weeks. She told me perhaps I should look into taking a bus.

I don't know anything about the bus system in Houston having just moved here. So I decided to

take a pass on the job. I think they are taking advantage of people. Asking too much. Am I thinking correctly? Was Postal Service asking too much of its applicants?
Welcome to working for the government. What you are going through is a government screening process that is pretty inflexible. Is it asking too much? Yes and No.

Yes, it's a lot for a temporary job. No, it's not a lot to ask for someone to go through basic screening processes - which these are.

You will likely run into this process at most any government based job you apply for. The same will be true for any large corporation - but they generally have some or all of their processes in house and easily accessible. Was Postal Service asking too much of its applicants?
Its just a big bureaucracy that honestly doesn't particularly care. Its nothing personal, thats just the way they are and they are not changing. You can go back in and re-apply or punt and find another job (and they won't care either way). Was Postal Service asking too much of its applicants?
I don't think they are taking advantage of people. If somebody thinks it's worth their energy to jump through all of those hoops for the opportunity to work for 4 weeks at $9.00 then more power to them. I personally would have done the same thing as you did and told them no.

I would make a copy of your tracking information and bring it to your local postal office, see for sure if the item went through there system. It would seem very unlikely that they would ever attempt a delivery at 4 am in the morning. I almost wonder since the tracking was initiated by the USPS. in the States, if it might not had been there time and not your local time. Like I said Go To Your Post Office and Check !Help. United States Postal Service wtf?
Contact ralllytennis.com and ask them where the racket is and tell them you didn't get it and you want your money back. It is their responsibility to make sure you get it or you will write a negative comment on their ebay account. Take what information to your post office and see if they can help you. Can you tell us where you need a zip code for, maybe we can look that up for you. Usually if the post office or UPS can't deliver an item because no one is home, they leave a yellow postcard in the mail box and you have to go to the post office and get your item from them. I would ask your post office for help. Good luck.

Oh, yeah. I've noticed %26amp; I think it's ridiculous. Hey...and what's with that 'forever stamp', anyway? How the heck does that work?
Thank you %26amp; especially for clarifying my misunderstanding of that forever stamp. Maybe it would be worth buying a couple books, just for future rate increases where it hits over a dollar per standard letter. I can just see that coming down the pipe.

They are the slowest moving people in the history of the world! They must be very high on the list of the Slowsky's favorite people. I'm sure if they could get their internet service from the U.S Postal service, they would drop verizon in a heartbeat!!
I really don't use u.s. postal service no more, I pay my bills on line. and haven't bought stamps in a long time. but I know they are not cheap like they use to be.Has anyone noticed that the U.S. Postal service..?
you better be careful who you this stuff to, mister. someone might go postal!!
With all of the "hardware" they carry, it's amazing they can walk.
Yes l have, but they don't care.
I agree 100% you said it!
yeah, makes me wonder what they are doing with our mail-and where they are putting the money at-not in our pockets that's for sure
No kidding, why does it take 4 days for a letter to travel 200 miles within the same state?
Anything government related in the U.S. sucks @ss!!!
I noticed!!!! That's why I retired from there....

I seen it go down hill for the last 40 years...

  • United States Postal Service (UK deliveries)?

Does anyone know who looks after the USPS deliveries on the UK side please?

The USPS website is useless and I have an email stating a delivery was made to me this morning and I have been in all day and no card has been left with any details and the USPS website wont send emails and there is no UK helpline.

ThanksUnited States Postal Service (UK deliveries)?
Are you serious? The USPS has responsibility only for mail within the US. Once it arrives in the UK it becomes the responsibility of Royal Mail.

The USPS does not operate anywhere but in the US. Your mail deliveries are made by Royal Mail.

Perhaps you are confusing USPS with UPS

    Postal Service Question Please Help!?

I am supposed to receive a letter in the mail and they sent it this morning around say 9 am..and it was sent to the post office the local one, when should i receive the email, if i live in the same town as the letter was sent in?

does that make since?Postal Service Question Please Help!?
Next day delivery is the usual time if it is going to be delivered in the same city it was sent from (IF it is properly addressed with enough postage). You should get it tomorrow. Otherwise TUESDAY because of the holiday.

You said "when should you receive the email"? You won't get an email unless the letter has tracking on it and you or the sender requested tracking. Here is the link to input tracking http://www.usps.com/shipping/trackandcon鈥?/a>

What does this package notice email mean?

Does this message mean its going to be delivered to my house today or is it going still take a while?

A package will be shipped to you on 03/17/2011 via U.S. Postal Service First-Class to the following address:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXWhat does this package notice email mean?
It says that a package has been sent to you, but it doesn't say when it will arrive. What does this package notice email mean?
No, if it were going to be delivered today, it would have said "WILL BE DELIVERED" today. But what it said was, "WILL BE SHIPPED" today. That means the sender is putting the package in the mail or dropping it off at the Post Office today, or at least that's what they claim they're going to do.

you can pay your bills online, you can email or text with phones.it will be non existent for letters eventuallyDon`t you think eventually the U.S. Postal Service will eventually have to cut down some services?
Or,God forbid, allow them to privatize (at some level) so they can become competitive and stand a chance. That'll will never happen. If the government had mandated that Edison invent the light bulb I'd be typing this under whale oil light.
It wasn't all that long ago that the post office stopped at your local township. You had to go pick it up. We could throw all those mail carriers on the street to compete with the already burgeoning ranks of the unemployed while we pay them severance, medical and pensions.

Eventually, we won't need paper delivery but a lot more than just letters, ads and bills pass through the post office. You can't send a "thing" via email.

    Obama's my zero:
If the government hadn't mandated the break up of AT%26amp;T, you'd be typing this on an IBM Correcting Selectric and mailing your answer to us all. The government is good and bad, not all bad as the Nilistic Trinity says.

    "non existent for letters eventually"

true, but i work for mailing company in the uk and the situation is much the same here, but what is on the rise parcels/packets with everyone ordering stuff online. so whereas traditional letters to your granny and bills etc are in total freefall, packets and parcels are are huge growth market.
it has been. and it isn't insolvent, it unlike other corporations is funding its retirement obligations and thus the negative balance sheet.Don`t you think eventually the U.S. Postal Service will eventually have to cut down some services?
Yes. They could stop the Saturday delivery. Not everyone has a computer and not all of who do pay bills online.
    Yes.

I have a ongoing problem with the US Postal Service, everyday they deliver..........?

our mail comes between 6-7 pm and nobody seems to give a ****,I've talked with the carriers, supervisors.

I've sent emails to my local Congressperson, nobody has contacted me.The USPS service really sucks.Personally, I think it's time they disappear, just like the milkman.

I see why they're billions of dollars in debt.I have a ongoing problem with the US Postal Service, everyday they deliver..........?
The reason your mail is coming that late is that we are way understaffed.

Management won't hire new carriers and when someone retires, leaves, or otherwise, the work they used to do gets dumped on the rest of the carriers.

The supervisors know this, and aren't allowed to fix it. Trust me, the carriers don't want to carry 1 1/2 routes every day.I have a ongoing problem with the US Postal Service, everyday they deliver..........?
What kind of work do YOU do? Are you ever forced to work overtime?

And it's not like you don't have options. You're getting your mail every day. What difference does it make if it comes at ten in the morning or six PM? And don't say 'because I have to get the mail and get to the bank before it closes' or some other thing that you need your mail for. Because, if you can't do your business the next day, you have the same option that everyone else has that needs their mail in the morning. You can rent a PO box, or pay for 'caller service' is you're a business. That way, you don't have to wait, and that premium service has been around since LONG before I started carrying mail 30+ years ago.

  • How does a citizen file a formal complaint against a local post office for poor service?

I am sure that I have seen a complaint form, but not recently. Are there on line forms to print out or email?

We live in a small town, and some of the postal employees are getting old and are rude and inconsiderate, acting like they are doing us a favor to do their civil service job which most people would be thrilled to have! But it's worse than that...

Our packages are delivered to the post office: we do not have door-to-door mail service. The postal employees insert a card in our post office box, letting us know to pick up packages.

Lately, it seems they often don't bother. When the parcel is a few days late in arriving, we ask and they mysteriously appear back there after they search around for awhile. We have paid for First Class or Priority Mail, and by that time, we have actually received our shipment much later, and may as well have paid for the sluggish Parcel Post. When I pay for Delivery Confirmation, they will actually scan the packages but not deliver them! I'll go on their website, and it will say it was delivered yesterday, but I have not received it! When I complain, it's just oh well, here it is. I think they need to be reported to a higher authority.

So.... how do I do that? I have searched on the USPS website, and cannot find a thing there. How does a citizen file a formal complaint against a local post office for poor service?
There is not a specific form for complaining about a postal worker, but you can certainly use their "email us" form and send them a note: https://hdusps.esecurecare.net/cgi-bin/h鈥?/a>

Or call USPS customer service and ask them the best way share your information with them: 1-800-275-8777.
If the problem is with your local post office you could ask to speak with the Post Office Master of that particular location. This is the manager of that branch. You can also file a formal complaint with the Office of the Inspector General, They can be reached by e-mail, phone, fax, or snail mail. Check the link below. Good luckHow does a citizen file a formal complaint against a local post office for poor service?
You need to contact the Postmaster for that area.
If you have a lawyer than ask one.Than look up Bill Handel and go on his website, they have free lawyer services. How does a citizen file a formal complaint against a local post office for poor service?
Go to there Website. Contact your local Postmaster Genreal1
Call your congressman and or Senator in your area and complain, complain and complain use 1-877-ask-usps and complain every complaint is handled by the area district if you complain to the postal employee expect to receive poor service I work for them we catch flake from Postmaster, managers, supervisors, and even the customers everyday and i mean everyday even when it is 110 degrees outside, raining, snowing, sleeting so hey what is one more complaint but if your going to complain follow the advice given up top it will work trust me
You really ought to be careful. Have you ever heard the expression " going postal"?? With the Postal Service running out of money, why haven't I heard word one about layoffs?

I'm sick of this crap. For years people have been using the USPS less and less as they embrace other forms of communication (email, videoconferencing, Fed Ex, UPS, Facebook, you name it). Government keeps throwing more and more money at this monstrosity, yet we hear nothing about laying off the bloated ranks of surly, union postal workers. Why not? The USPS needs less of them, thin the herds like private companies have to do to survive.

With the Postal Service running out of money, why haven't I heard word one about layoffs?
I don't know about layoffs, but I have heard that they might stop Saturday service to cut back.
They are not running out of money, they already have:

http://www.thestarpress.com/article/2009鈥?/a>With the Postal Service running out of money, why haven't I heard word one about layoffs?
i have heard about lots of layoffs to our postal service workers. I live in cincinnati, ohio, and the other night on the news they had a story about postal sercives personel being laid off.

    Postal Service stopping Saturday delivery?

I'm all for this idea. The most important mail we get through the carriers are bills. Businesses are closed on weekends (thus do not send out or receive mail), so having no delivery on Saturdays is not going to affect our bills. The other most important mail we get is invitations for family evens, etc, %26amp; it won't hurt anyone to receive them 1 day late. I say if it saves money %26amp; it's not absolutely necessary, than lets cut back %26amp; end Saturday deliveries.

Also, it seems like the post office raises their prices/stamps almost every year - that's a dumb move. With free online bill pay %26amp; email, etc, people are using that as their main delivery service to save money. The more the post office raises their prices, the more people will pay/send more bills/invitations will be sent via the web. I'm sure that's what caused them to raise their prices in the first place, but the more they raise the prices, the more they'll lose customers, not save money.Postal Service stopping Saturday delivery?
You are 100% correct. They realize this also. That is why they want to do away with saturdays. If they get their way, you will see it happen some time next year.

Would it bother you if we no longer had the U.S. Postal Service?

I would hate to lose this service that we have had all our lives. I appreciate my email. It really bothers me that fewer people use the mail service and post offices are closing.Would it bother you if we no longer had the U.S. Postal Service?
It sure would, yes. There are people who don't have or want computers, or can't afford them. There are the small businesses who'd have to invest in one, and might have to go under for that reason. There are people who don't want to pay bills online. There is no substitute for a sympathy card. Some shopping sites would have to pull the plug to replace everything formerly in catalogues. Millions of postal workers would lose employment, and most sign on for the retirement and holidays. And reasons beyond these.
My husband retired from the U.S. Post Office and I would hate to lose this service. I just love going to the mail box at Christmases and other occasions to see what I got and there is nothing like getting a hand written letter it is so much for personal.Would it bother you if we no longer had the U.S. Postal Service?
It would bother me greatly, as I STILL rely on the service for hard copy documents, both, going out and coming in. I don't see private services, such as UPS, FedEx and others delivering ANYTHING across the country for under fifty cents.

Now, I don't like the volume of junk mail, which is rarely read and wastes a LOT of living trees to create, but I still get lots of junk email which my spam filters miss. I guess that will still continue.

As far as post offices closing, that CAN be a bit inconvenient for some people, but this won't stop the postal service, the BULK of which is STILL home delivery.

I guess this prompts the question, "WHY does it bother you that fewer people us the mail service?"
Well, as far as I know, you still can't receive a package through email, without UPS or something. And I don't know how I would send a package out. There's no dropoff center here for UPS or FEDEX.

Yeah, the loss of the post office would bother me.Would it bother you if we no longer had the U.S. Postal Service?
Yes, it would bother me. I'm not particularly happy with electronic mailing.

I'm one of those people that do not care for email greeting cards or paying debts.

3 times this past year my husband has illegal charges billed to his Bank of America card and 3 times he's had to go thru the hassle of changing his account number.

I realize this is not the computers fault, the fault is solely the people(thieves) these companies hire to process the material.
I would miss the mail, as I live in the country, but I know there is a lot of unnecessary waste and it needs to be overhauled. A relative works in a post office and the stress is taking it's toll on him. Every few months they change the whole routine and add more or take away other duties, it's just something all the time. It's just one more government service that needs realistic changes.
Seems to me that many people use the mail. Not everyone has a computer or internet access. We certainly get enough mail, most of it junk and bills. They keep on coming. Yes, it would bother me. I love getting Christmas cards and people send us birthday and other holiday cards. I don't like paying bills online. Too many things can happen.
The internet will not replace the United States Postal Service anytime in the near future. UPS and FED-EX and other delivery services that are surely in our future will compete but never totally replace it. On second thought . We have been assured of " Change " and in recent months the change that we have experienced means nothing is sacred.
I don't understand why the US Postal Service doesn't just start delivering mail 3x/week. It seems like a no-brainer to me, yet no one seems to want to commit to it. It would save millions of $$ and I don't believe it would have a negative impact on the general population. 85% of what is put into my mailbox is junk mail, so it doesn't matter what day of the week I receive it.
Probably the best thing that has happened to the delivery of our mail and has helped to keep this service cost effective:

All those multiple mail box areas--I can just imagine the amount of money saved by creating this idea.
It wouldn't bother me at all if they closed in on Saturdays as they have been talking about, but I still like getting my snail mail.
I send packages to my grand kids across the continent, so i need the flat rate box supplied by the USPO
I depend on our postal services and use post offices on our travels to send cards and letters to friends and relatives. I look forward to the mailman going each day. We have had three regular mail men during our time here the last 40 yrs. And we know all three as longtime friends.
Yes - aside from my appreciation of the WRITTEN word, my catalogs, magazines, etc. - I have two family members who earn good bucks
Yes I pay all my bills by mail and would give up my computer before the post office.I know big brother wants us to have everything on line so they can track everything we do but I'lll go out kicking and screaming. I also get mail everyday so why do they say no one is using the mail? It would really help if those at the top wouldn't be paid such outrageous salaries and they paid the people who are actually doing the work at the post offices.
Me! personally, NO! cos I live in England, but we are very near losing our G.P.O and that would be just as awful, as you losing yours...
Yes, I would be very upset if we no longer had the U.S. Postal Service. I still write letters and mail birthday cards. Also send all my packages by the USPS.
im not a senior citizen (im only 19), but this question caught my eye.

almost every letter i have ever sent through the mail (a total of 3) two of them got lost in the mail and never got where they needed to go

i dont send my bills through the mail either due to my lack of trust for the mail. i pay them all online, its easier for me anyway.

but i know a lot of people like to use the postal service, because i've been selling stamps like crazy at work. (perhaps cuz the holidays are around teh corner yet again?)

it wouldn't bother me at all. but i know a lot of people where i live wouldn't be too happy (i live in florida, lots of retirees here who despise technology) i do like how cheap it is to send packages though. my relatives in connecticut send me packages through teh mail that cost really little.

if i order anything online, it almost always comes through either fed-ex or UPS, thye've never lost any of my packages
    For sure!

With most of our family living out of state, I count on the Post Office for getting cards and gifts to them

Saturday I went down to the P.O. and mailed off a box of Halloween goodies to my dad up in NY, and he had it on Monday! (And compared to Fed Ex, the price is much more reasonable...especially when using the Flat Rate boxes.)

Sure, the price of stamps for letters has gone up, but the over-all service has always been reliable and dependable. I'd definitely be in a dilemma without it.

    .
I didn't know they were closing, I haven't read that in the news yet. I mail a lot of packages and UPS is too expensive for small packages.
I would very much miss it. I will not shop or pay bills on line. I will not put my SS, bank or credit card numbers out in cyber space.

I love to get hand written letters, actual photos in the mail and I send packages from my post office.

It would be heartbreaking to lose it.
I retired from the Postal Service and would hate to lose this free service. I live in a rural area and there are no UPS or Fed Ex stores in my area but I have access to 16 different Post Offices within a 25 mile radius. I can see a future with five day delivery and the closings of many small offices.
I imagine UPS would expand and have pickup/drop off centers in the smaller cities. The closest one right now is over 30 miles through heavy traffic right now. I would miss the convenience of getting mail each weekday. I wonder how competitive the independent delivery services would be and if they would charge extra to drive way out in the boonies to deliver a few pieces of mail, whereas the USPS does not.

I use mail service, don't ever want to receive or pay bills, especially utility bills, online and won't settle for automatic check-withdrawal for those either. I always use USPS to send packages, their flat-rate packages are a very good deal especially for overseas shipping.
Yes, it would bother me. Although I don't use it often, this is the way I mail my packages, and of course I like to receive mail the old fashioned way, in my mailbox.
Is it worse than Canada Post ? when ever our carrier is off we get others mail

    Z) Imagination
It is received when you are born again and ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior and to come into your heart. You are FILLED when you ask to be filled/baptized and believe that you are filled and may have utterance in an unknown tongue.

Born again = Holy Spirit is IN you

Baptized with the Holy Spirit = being FILLED and FULL with the Spirit.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. That is bible and it is the truth!!!!
All these might be working experiments/examples on yourself but there is a lot of work to be done.
If you're speaking about the Holy Spirit, then when i accepted the grace of God, John 3:16, having faith and believing in Christ Jesus, John 1:12-13. Then the Holy Spirit, dwells in my heart. And only the Father God Almighty did to seal His own; Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

Eph 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

Eph 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Phi 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.

I know that you are not serious but im going to tell you any way. You receive the spirit by repenting and putting your trust and faith in Jesus. Read John Chapter 3. It is like the wind no one can see the wind but you know it is there because of the results of it. So it is with the spirit. you can not see it but if it is in you there will be results from it. Your life will be changed and you will want to live for God. Your thoughts will be on how to do the will of God. And you will be able to interpret the scriptures.

Is the United States Postal Service slowly becoming obsolete?

With the advent of last week's postage hike to .41 cents, it makes me wonder if the the USPS will go the way of the buggy whip, i.e., become obsolete. There revenue has had to drop substantially in the age of communication. We can now communicate and pay bills via several means: Phone, online, text messenging, email. There are companies like FedEx and UPS that can deliver anything else. What's your take on this?Is the United States Postal Service slowly becoming obsolete?
I think that the USPS is not becoming obsolete, the reason why postage increased is due to it becoming more automated...i.e. flat sorting machines. Sure revenue has dropped, but thay are making up for it in customer connect i.e. flat rate boxes, carrier pick-up, stamps by mail. If you participate in these services. You may rarely ever have to go to the post office. Also on my route I have had an increase of mail volume with less errors, due to the automated process. So by no means is the postal service going to become extinct.
The only time I use the mail is for cards - birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc...

So I really haven't paid much attention. They are already obsolete to me.Is the United States Postal Service slowly becoming obsolete?
Given the fact that my mailbox at home is bulging with stuff every day, I don't think they'll be obsolete anytime soon. There's still a use for the UPS--but I'm sure they are hurting with online bill pay and things like that.
yes it is because of e-mail and paying on line or by automatic withdrawalIs the United States Postal Service slowly becoming obsolete?
I think the USPS is taking the general acceptance of this view and using it to rob us who still send traditional greeting cards and such. The USPS is not doing as poorly as they want you to think. never the less, postage will go up just like everything else, honestly, I think the USPS would do better managing the price of gas than the oil companies. Seriously how would it be to have gas at $.41 a gallon?

    -Duo
USPS sucks. Can't even deliver your mail on time. We are moving into an age where you have to depend on yourself to survive.
    Hardly!

By the way, if you compare the services and prices of the USPS to those of almost any other country in the world, not only are they a bargain, they are extremely reliable.

Also, take a look at what it costs to mail the same package via FedEX or UPS and USPS. Once again, USPS is a bargain and they provide the same services and MORE (overnight, signed receipts, etc).

I've never understand why people slam them all the time and they're really a great success story.
Yeah! Why spend money on stamps when you can just send free e-mails? We pay our bills online most of the time now!
As long as the USPS stays with or ahead of competition and trends, they should last. They have a vast infrastructure, superior to anything UPS or FedEX has, relative to buildings, equipment and personnel.

USPS is doing alot of online business now, including buying stamps, scheduling pickups and tracking packages.

41 cents is still the cheapest way to send a package the size of a letter.
Ah yes, if only the Postal Service charged what FedEX and UPS charge, then you would really be upset. Oh yes, when UPS can't deliver a package to you due to incorrect or insufficient address they send a postcard by...mail! Why? Because they know that the letter carrier will know the right or complete address. Then UPS adds on a change of address surcharge for delivering the package! What a ripoff.

Live way out in the country somewhere? The men in the brown suits won't deliver to you. Just another reason the USPS rules.

Get real and get the facts!

Where can I find list of prices for mail parcels from Mexico to international destinations?

Hi I already had a look around and I could not locate anything at two postal sites. Maybe I am blind. Is there a PDF I could download from somewhere preferably in English but it can be also in Spanish? It is for a business venture of mine. I had even email both postal services and they did not respond to me even though I sent it to them in Spanish!

Thank you guys soooo much.Where can I find list of prices for mail parcels from Mexico to international destinations?
All the rates are available on the Mexican Postal Service site -- that's where I get them.

If you want a little tip, send your packages registered -- it only costs a little more. You won't get a confirmation back, but I have found after sending hundreds of parcels that it is FAR more reliable.

Should the government sell certain agencies, e.g. the Postal Service, AMTRAK, Smithsonian?

This is part of a government reorganization plan that I came up with. I can email it to anyone who wishes to view it.Should the government sell certain agencies, e.g. the Postal Service, AMTRAK, Smithsonian?
The Postal Service doesn't take any tax dollars. They depend upon revenues from their services.

The Smithsonian isn't a government agency. It's private, although chartered to serve the needs of the public. The government can't sell the Smithsonian or any of its holdings.

Amtrak is a corporation chartered by the US government to provide passenger rail service. The only reason it was established (by President Nixon) was that the private railroad companies didn't want the passenger trains--and they still don't. In short, nobody wants to buy Amtrak. If the private sector stepped up to operating passenger trains throughout the country, I feel sure that Amtrak would be sold (or at least turned into a completely private company).

Anyone have experience with being interviewed by the postal service?

Here is the email I received and I'm wondering what details I could get about the whole process.

Based on your application for a TE Letter Carrier Position with the Postal Service in .... you are being scheduled for an interview. The interviews will be held on April 5th 2010 at the Main Post Office located at ...... . The interviews will be on ........ at 9:00 AM. You need to arrive early enough to find parking and proceed through security at the entrance to the building. There will be a group discussion before the interview process begins. The interviews will be conducted in the order that the names appear on the interview registration. Applicants need to be prepared to be there until approximately 3:00 depending on how many applicants attend. Please respond as to whether you will be at the interviews or not. There will be no opportunity to reschedule the interview.Anyone have experience with being interviewed by the postal service?
Be on time and make sure you have cleared your day to be there the full 8 hours. Do not park in a metered area requiring you to feed coins. If they asked you to bring your DMV print out make sure it is the correct one. I believe it is the H6, which is the 10 year history. The TE position is a very physical job requiring a lot of lifting and walking. Try to recall experiences you have had that had that required both. If you recently graduated from school and you played any kind of sports mention it during your interview. TEs may be worked anywhere from 2 hours a week to 40+, so stress your reliability and your flexibility on working hours.Anyone have experience with being interviewed by the postal service?
Yes. But that was 10 years ago. :P

It will be just like any other job interview. If you get the job, you better be ready to walk. Most mail carriers will walk an average of 8 to 10 miles a day.

  • Question about united states postal service?

my friend is out of town and asked me to retrieve his item he ordered from a website

my question is the first attempt to mail me the item failed. (i forgot to retrieve it for 3 days. so the item's not there) so my friend tried again but it was mailed 2 days ago, and i and in the email below, it said that it will be held for 5 business days.

who is holding it? united states postal service? or is it in the mailbox?

    Status: Notice Left

Another attempt to deliver your item was made at 5:03 AM on July 16, 2008 in -city crossed out- and a notice was left. Your mailpiece will be held for five business days from this attempt date and then it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.Question about united states postal service?
It is held at the post office. Take the notice that was left to the counter at the correct post office. Or perhaps you can sign the notice and give it back to the postman, and he will retrieve the item from the post office the next day and deliver it. In that case he can leave it even if the addressee is not home.
USPS is holding it.Question about united states postal service?
The post office. They need a signature saying someone received the package. They will hold it for 5 days-til 7/21. If someone doesn't sign for it, it gets sent back to the company. You have to go to the post office that has the stamp on it.
I think this means its at his local post office. I'm not sure though.Question about united states postal service?
The post office has it. Make sure you get it this time.
If it was mailed the post office is holding it and the address would be on the back side of the form. If it was sent UPS, they are holding it but will only hold it 5 days. You can call and they will redeliver it or tell you where you can pick it up.

What I can Do now ??

From 24-Nov Until Now i just Received the same message

What Is It Meaning ??? And can Anybody Help Me ???USPS (United States Postal Service)?
What it means is: the seller has printed a label and has reserved the tracking #.

It means that the USPS has been notified that they can expect the package from another agency but they do not actually have physical possession of the package yet.

If the package is coming from another country, it is very likely hung up in customs.

It is not that the post office is slow rolling you. Trust me, we really want to get those packages out.USPS (United States Postal Service)?
Like anything run by the government, USPS is very slow and bad at their job, just hang tight and hopefully it will arrive within a month.

    Us postal service question?

i recently bought a cell phone off a company on ebay which is located in Palm City, FL 34990. I live in central illinois and i received an email that the item was shipped on the 5th. This is the second time trying to get this item to me because the first time i called the company i bought it from on ebay and they said that the item you purchased was lost and they said they would send me another one. Now i hope that one will not get lost also. The company said that is should only take 2-3 days to get here and they are using Priority mail to ship it. Im becoming very impatient with the usps and i just want my cell phone.. What day do you think it will be here. And when i put in the tracking number all it says isThe U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on January 5, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. the ppl u bought the phone from never gave it to usps. first of all they were too quick in saying "ya the first one got lost and we'll send u another one" usually they'll wait at least 2 weeks before declaring it lost. also usps has been doing this for a very long time. what r the chances of them losing UR package twice? i would cancel the charge on my credit card if i were u

it depends on box size and how safe the postal worker feels leaving it. If its small enough to fit in your mailbox, that's where it will be. if you have like a screen door, it might end up in there. if the postal worker doesn't trust the neighborhood, they will tag your door and you will have to go pick it up

  • Does anyone know where to go to purchase a Right-Hand Drive vehicle for Postal Work?

I currently reside in Maryland (USA of course) as a Rural Carrier for the Postal Service. However, I work out of my personal vehicle. If anyone knows any sites, catalogs etc that I can look into to purchase a RHD vehicle, please email me at thascorpionism03@msn.com. Any bit of (authentic) information would help me a lot. Thanks.Does anyone know where to go to purchase a Right-Hand Drive vehicle for Postal Work?
The postal service periodically sells off used vehicles, including the right hand drive delivery "jeeps" and parcel delivery trucks. Check with your postmaster for when these sales are held in your area.

You might be able to purchase a right hand drive "normal" car through a dealer whose cars are made or sold in countries that drive on the left - like the U.K., Japan or Australia. They are accustomed to making these "reversed" for home consumption as a regular part of their range.

Some vehicles that were imported by private owners from right-hand-drive countries may be available through classified ads or on line.Does anyone know where to go to purchase a Right-Hand Drive vehicle for Postal Work?

Is the US Postal Service committing suicide?

While USPS service is getting steadily worse, email is getting better all the time.

They shut down Saturday services at most post offices. Now at the mailbox near me their last clearance is at 3 p.m. instead of 5:30 p.m.

Deliveries during the week are down to once per day. I don't know how it is today in France and England, but it used to be two or three times a day. Some countries had Sunday deliveries of mail too.

The price of stamps will soon go up. Again.

Meanwhile, how is UPS doing? And Federal Express? Will the USPS drive itself out of business? Or does its constitutional status mean that it is immune to failure and insulated against competition?

If US telephone services were operated by the post office, as it is in many countries, would it be as bad and as expensive as theirs usually are?Is the US Postal Service committing suicide?
Funny you should ask that: A co-worker of mine was complaining today: His parents sent him a legal document via USPS. They had delivery confirmation on it, it was delivered to the wrong address and signed for.

When he called to have it tracked, they told him that he would have to come down to the central office; fill out some forms and pay money; wait two weeks and then they could "tell him who signed for it and then he could hunt it down".

Another problem: we had a massive mailing go out and a lot of mail was returned "not at this address, no forwarding address"....we were charged for the returned mail, and guess what? I called several of them, just to confirm and guess what: they were addressed correctly!! So we got screwed twice; the correctly addressed mail we paid to have delivered, wasn't; then we had to pay additionally when it was returned!!

Here's another gripe: many of the government agencies, when you are applying for a job for the FBI, Secret Service, so on; tell you to not use the USPS to send in documents! They instruct you to use FedEx or UPS!! Even the Government won't trust the USPS!

When I was in the Corps and was getting repair parts for aircraft that were down we only used FedEx...particularly if it was overseas! We were allowed to spend extra to avoid getting the part lost in the USPS.

SHOULD WE BE SO LUCKY THAT THE USPS WOULD COMMITT SUICIDE...HEY, THEY ARE LIFE SUPPORT WITH NO BRAIN ACTIVITY ANYWAYS...

    PAGING DOCTOR KEVORKIAN...
Do not really need mail for most things other than some bills and packages. Is the US Postal Service committing suicide?
chicken and egg...prices are going up and hours down due to fewer letters being sent....but not really. They get plenty of business.
OK, mail service has always been once a day, in the U.S. and in France and England. The Postal Service also doesn't make that much money off of stamps. It's money is made through 3rd class advertising mail. It's also not losing profits but gaining everyday and is the only self sustaining Government business in the United States. So the Constitution has nothing to do with it.....and Fed-Ex works with the Postal Service in serving customers on some things. Also the U.S. Postal Service delivers more mail than any other agency in the world which can be hard to do....Is the US Postal Service committing suicide?
They are reducing some services and increasing others.

In today's digital society more things are now being done over the computer that were once reserved for the postal service. Where the letter carrying business is down, the shipping is up. Way up actually.

Like any other business they have to constantly adapt to what the market wants and that may mean changing things around and even discontinuing services that may be traditional but no longer viable in the current market place.

I am not sure how UPS or FedEx is doing against the post office but all three seem to do very well with each other in the market place.

In my area there is still a 5pm cutoff for mail dropoff at the post office and I think 2pm on weekends. Still not bad, considering it's only 39cents to mail a 1oz letter. With fewer Americans using the postal service I think that its reasonable that they'd reduce some of the hours they make available to send mail out.
I'm pretty sure nobody found a way to send packages via e-mail. As matter of fact, I believe the Postal Service sends a lot more packages these days due to on-line shopping. Personally, I have bought several books and Cd's on-line that were shipped through the Postal Service and Fed Ex. The U.S. Postal Service is also eBay's number one shipping service. They ship so much from eBay they found it feasible to print the eBay logo directly on their packages as opposed to printing the labels. The US. Postal Service is a growing entity

Should I email the MBA program I applied for to make sure they received my transcripts?

One school send me a postcard saying they received everything. Another school has a website. But this last school has said nothing. I know they got my application, but I don't know if they got the transcripts. Will I make myself stand out negatively if I email them asking if they received them? Or should I just assume that the US Postal Service is reliable?Should I email the MBA program I applied for to make sure they received my transcripts?
all ways follow up give them a call e-mail whateverShould I email the MBA program I applied for to make sure they received my transcripts?
    It can't hurt.

Is it ok to ask for an interviewers email address?

I know that you have to send a thank you letter to really make sure that you get the job, but how should I get the interviewer's email? Should I just ask for it at the end of the interview? And how do postal addresses work at a mall? Just in case I need to send it via postal service. Oh, and I have no idea about the format of the company email addresses so I am not able to guess the address. Thanks in advance! Is it ok to ask for an interviewers email address?
It's OK to ask the interviewer if you can email them to inquire about their decision. If they say you can email them for that purpose, then ask for the email address for that inquiry.

If it's a regular company, in an office building or has a building of its own, ask the secretary for the postal address. Just say you want to send a thank you note to the interviewer. As for the mall, the mall will have an address for the whole building. Send the card to the mall address and put the store name on the first line before the street address of the mall.

This is important! Do not use email to send your thank yous! Use an actual hand-written note. Write clearly so they can read it. Send that through the regular mail. Don't wait until after their decision has been made. Send it as soon as you leave the interview, on your way home from the interview. Use the email address only for inquiring about their decision.

If they closed the postal service, what would the big deal be?

Use email, fax, direct deposit, bill pay etc etc...I haven't received anything important via the post office in years. If they closed the postal service, what would the big deal be?
Some things still have to be sent by regular mail. You would have to start sending it for $3.00 (cost of sending letter through Fed Ex) instead of $0.44.If they closed the postal service, what would the big deal be?
HOW DARE YOU EVEN SUGGEST SUCH A THING!!! Do you know how many lazy people would have to actually WORK HARD to keep their job? I can't stand postal employees... they move only as fast as necessary not to have anyone in line past their clock out time.If they closed the postal service, what would the big deal be?
it probably will mean nothing to you but there are many thing still handled by the PO and closing that system of service would definitely be disruptive

Which is the better way to send a cover letter/resume? Email or snail mail?

There are several accounting firms I'm interested in working for. They're all local/regional firms, so they don't have online means for applying. Is it better to send my cover letter and resume through an email or the US postal service? I would think email would be quicker and cheaper, but regular mail may be harder to ignore since it couldn't be effortlessly deleted with spam.Which is the better way to send a cover letter/resume? Email or snail mail?
I've heard that it's better to send email because it saves them the hassle of scanning your resume, searching for keywords and adding to the database.Which is the better way to send a cover letter/resume? Email or snail mail?

Question about economy shipping with the US Postal service?

I recently won something on ebay, which is being shipped through USPS. It says economy shipping, and I received a confirmation of delivery email two days ago. It is being shipped from Los Angeles to my house in Orange County, California, about 50 miles away. How long should I expect my delivery to arrive? (They're just basketball tickets, so I assume it will come in the regular mail, no package or anything) Thanks.Question about economy shipping with the US Postal service?
I don't know what economy shipping is. It means something different for every service. The United States Postal Service does NOT have any service called "Economy." Usually that means they are going to either send it through FedEx SmartPost of UPS Mail Innovations. Irregardless of what service they use, it will be delivered by your mail man. If they send it cheap through the USPS they could use either First Class or Parcel Post for mail or packages respectively. First class, if they send it as a letter, usually takes about 1 or 2 days to get to you. If it is sent as parcel post it can take up to 10 days. At this time of year it may take longer because of Christmas packages.

I don't know how long it takes FedEx and UPS to send their stuff to the Post Office but I know once we get it then we send it out that day.

  • Should the US Postal service be kept as a jobs program even though their service is antiquated?

And email could handle the vast majority of mail for a tiny fraction of the cost of the USPS?Should the US Postal service be kept as a jobs program even though their service is antiquated?
No. It needs to be eliminated, or at the very least it needs to be de-unionized.
NoShould the US Postal service be kept as a jobs program even though their service is antiquated?
We in Canada did not realise how much we depended upon our postal service until the labour disruption earlier this year. While a service reduction would certainly help the situation, it's still an important enough part of the economy. Millions of Americans rely on it because it is significantly less expensive than other carriers and it covers every single address in the US.
The post office is a direct function of gov't per the US Constitution. Therefore, they shouldn't be eliminated, but they definitely need to be revamped to keep up with the times.Should the US Postal service be kept as a jobs program even though their service is antiquated?
Parcels are sent by UPS you know? Parcels can't be sent by e-mail.
No. The post office delivers to areas of the county that the other services won't because it is not profitable. The post office just needs to be able to change rates and services to be compatible and meet government regulations.
Antiquated maybe but the volume of mail the USPS handles on a daily basis is still massive and at a lower cost than any private company could possibly do.
Keep in mind the USPS was in good shape until a bill was passed 5 years ago that required the USPS to fund their pension plan for the next 75 years and it gave them 10 years to accomplish this. Yearly that has meant $5.3 billion dollars of USPS revenues going towards this pension bill. And there is almost $75 billion dollars current in that fund and a bill in the works that will allow the USPS to repay some of that over payment back to the USPS general fund..Take that away and the USPS is back in the black.
The postal serice has 75 billion a year in revenue and you call them antiquated They deliver 600 million pieces of mail every day
Would have been a better idea to update it with the times so it could compete !
No, it is far too expensive, mismanaged and inefficient. Time to move on.
No, jobs are not ends they're merely just means to an end.

I am in California and do not want to make an expensive phone call to the UK to fix their problem. Far from obsolete. Be careful what you wish for. Dismantle the postal infrastructure as it exists, and what do you do when nothing electronic works? Power failures, national disasters...ask anyone that's lived through flooding or tornadoes or hurricanes that took everything they owned, what was the first thing that made them feel like life was getting back to normal, and they'll tell you it was mail delivery to their ravaged neighborhoods.

What good are unions to the postal service?

Carter did away with federal unions ability to strike. If they could strike it would be a blessing to all as we would see that we do not need them anymore. I think the Postal Service should open with two shifts, from 7 AM to 7 PM. I understand that a lot of people are emailing because they need quick answers. Not everyone is in a hurry.Does anyone agree that that Postal Service hours are totally out of date with reality? They want 2 cents more!?
Every time postage goes up I reduce my mailings. I now have about 80% of my bills paid electronically. Another raise and it will be 98%. They are just cutting their own throats. I used to order garden seeds and supplies through the mail. Now I don't anymore because to buy $5.00 worth of seeds, it costs $7.00 for postage. They are killing businesses that operate mail order. All my letter writing nowadays is by e-mail. Go buy a shoebox full of Forever Stamps. Postal service in the Philippines.?

I wonder why there is no door to door postal service in the Philippines.

Why do I have to go to a postal center to deliver a letter?

I am sure it will be a thing of the past with email now but it is still a service that is useful.

What do you think?Postal service in the Philippines.?
I think the foremost reason why there is no daily mail delivery and collection in the Phils. is postal office budget. The post office can't afford to hire additional employees and vehicles to deliver and collect mail daily. Post office isn't generating much revenue to afford such service because most companies in the Phils. do not use snail mail to send ads, goods, and other correspondence in bulks to consumers unlike in the US. Philippine Post site also do not have online postage calculation, payment, and printing so a mail sender really need to bring his package in the post office for postage.Postal service in the Philippines.?
They don't have enough employees to do that.

Besides, employees can not carry weighing machine to determine the amount of stamps you have to put on your letter to the places or countries you want to send them.

And finally, imagine the bulk of things her will have to carry with all those letter and packages he has to carry. Pity them!Postal service in the Philippines.?

Apparently this is supposed to draw a parallel with the current health care legislation, implying that it too will end up "broke". (Note: Please restrict your answers to the USPS; I don't need your opinion on health care.)

Personally, I've always been amazed that I can send something for 40-some cents anywhere in the country, and their package rates are usually cheaper than UPS and FedEx as well. Am I missing something? Why would people think the USPS is broke? Perhaps it's heavily subsidized through taxes, and I don't realize that the postage I pay is only part of the cost?Is the U.S. Postal Service "broke"?
I work with a US Mail Carrier (at her second job) and several months ago she did mention that yes, the US Postal Service was out of money, literally. She didn't know where the money was going to come from to pay her check, because the account was empty.

She didn't seem to worried about it, so I assume that it's one of those things where they are making cuts somewhere else but yes, the US Postal Service is broke.

How do I get an email address for someone I know without asking them?

EASY....go to the white pages on your computer or if you don't have it go to the people finder and type his/her name and part or any of her/his address and if will come up. You'll have to go through a series of questions,,,, good luck,

Do you think the Postal Service is greedy?

41 cents for a stamp now. Why does it have to go up every other day. I'm tired of buying 2 or 3 cent stamps to go with the old ones. They want you to believe they're losing money due to emails, people paying bills online, etc. But the fact is, Ebay and other online shopping sites MORE than makes up for that.Do you think the Postal Service is greedy?
the truth is that i worked for this small online store and they shipped via the usps originally but then they realized they were getting killed because they charge way too much for larger packages. if you want to make money as a shipping company you need to make it cheaper and easier to ship larger packages. as well as make their terrible tracking system better. their employees have no interest in working and when you look at people like fedex or ups. you think and you realize that those workers are happier and they dont mind doing their job.

i dont agree that they are greedy but i think they have their priorities all mest up. if they make some internal changes instead of continually adding to standar mail shipments. the entire system by which they function needs to be restructured. thats my opinion.

    enjoy
The reason that they have to keep raising the rates are because of the rising gas prices. It costs them more to fly %26amp; drive the mail around then it did before. Emails and online stuff does effect them a bit but I am sure that there are still enough papers going through the usual routes to keep them busy!Do you think the Postal Service is greedy?
    Absolutely !
hey they need to pay for gas tooDo you think the Postal Service is greedy?
If you think $0.41 is too much to pay, then drive your letters to where-ever it is that they need to go yourself!

Think about the massive infrastructure that the post office has to get your letter anywhere "ANYWHERE" in the U.S. for $0.41.

If you look at the historical prices of stamps since 1981, they have gone from $.20 to $.41. That is an annual increase of 5.4%. Not bad for a governmentally managed company!
I agree with the answers that say this question is ridiculous. My mom works for the USPS and the reason the prices are increasing is due to a lot of things. Also I wouldn't be bashing the employees as they have nothing to do with the rising costs. Remember it still costs them the same to ship their letter as it does yours.
yes. that is ridiculous. 41 cents for a sticker
hallo bro yu live in this world when yu go to work your or mine pay is never enought everything is going up never down so postal service too tust joint the club we all gona cry about hi price but we dont have a choice so just join the payers club
There is no need to purchase 41 cent or 2 and 3 cent stamps.

Do what I do instead, only purchase 1 cent stamps and put 41 on each letter. It is acceptable to put some on both sides to leave room for the address.

Seriously though, I only use the US Post Office, they still have the lowest prices and best service. And they are the ONLY profitable branch of the US Government.
i freakin went tot he post office today and a package that i used to send for 63 cents jumped 17 cents in one day... and they lose half of my mail... i hate the post office.....
